Namaste one and all from sunny and clear Namche Bazaar I hope you all had a restful and relaxing weekend?  Me?  I just went for a short walk up a very very long hill! I took off from Heathrow on Wednesday 11th October at 8.30pm, then at 2.15pm UK time on Saturday 14th October (7pm Nepal time)…

23rd April 2017

Initially I was hoping to do #Namcheinoneday on 1st April.   Rajan from Himalayan Guides turned up at Hotel Access to  pick up me, Roger and Nadine early that morning.  We dropped Roger and Nads at the international terminal then headed to the domestic terminal for the usual chaos.  I was booked on the 2nd flight,…

7th November 2016

So another fun filled 5 days in Namche meant that I was fully recharged, my cold had disappeared, my laundry had been done and I had even had my hair washed and blow-dried!! But, soon it was time to set off back down the trail I had walked up a couple of weeks earlier… Kaami…

Namaste mero saathi horu Yep, totally getting into this Nepali now, learning more each time and the one thing I have realised this time is that the Nepali I learned last time, has stuck and I now find myself answering questions put to me in Nepali, in Nepali without thinking about it…..I am also getting…

2nd April 2016

On 25th April 2015 Nepal was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake. This also triggered a massive avalanche at Everest Base Camp. 11 months later I find myself at the home of one of the Sherpa that we lost that day. I am in Chheskham, Sokukhumbu overlooking hills with scars to show the earthquake happened….

Namgel finally arrived in Salleri late that evening as his jeep had spent at least 3 hours queueing for petrol en-route.  I told him to have some food at his Auntie’s  and I would see him in the morning. Another sunny day dawned in Salleri but I had the noisiest neighbours whose alarm went off…

I’d had a hectic 3 days in KTM, rushing round to various meetings, catching up with friends, trying to get my laptop to log into work in certain places (bloomin firewalls)  and being reunited with my kit at Hotel Access.   But at 5am (the time they told us to be there) on Monday morning I…

12th May 2015

This is my account of the 8 days I had in Nepal once the earthquake struck.  I hope it is honest and gives you a little bit of an insight into what we went through.  I have had to read and re-read this a hundred times since I arrived back on Bank Holiday Monday morning. …

27th April 2015

I was half way through my blog about my Eastern adventures and then the earthquake hit.   At some stage I am sure that I will finish it and post it, but for now, as I have been getting lots of messages via text, email and Facebook, I thought it was easier to write a mini blog!…

11th March 2015

It all started at Heathrow, I arrived in plenty of time for our check in and settled myself in Café Rouge with a large glass of pinot awaiting the arrival of Roger.  Then I get a message “stuck on M4 big accident, just passed Swindon”  this was at the time he was due to arrive…

28th October 2014

So far on this trip, I had been round the Annapurna circuit, had a mad couple of days in KTM and was about to board a plane to Lukla….. First flight of the day meant a 5am pick up!! Standing at the front of my hotel waiting for Rajan to appear to take me to the…

10th October 2014

I was in Manang about to have a rest day!   Ah, rest days……how badly named they are!  The 3 of us looked over at the hill on the other side of the river knowing that was our objective for the day, we would hit 4000m, and hopefully I would then be able to sleep.  The…
